GaGa returns with yet another over the top video for her newest single, “Paparazzi“. This one is a short film about the life and times of Lady GaGa with some serious celebrity satire thrown in the mix. It’s a fun video. I especially love her putting her sunglasses on the poisoned eyepatch guy and what she says when she calls the police. It took me a while to warm up to this song at first, but now I think it’s one of her better cuts from The Fame. (Don’t forget to download the track by clicking that giant link below.)
[I now understand why there are so many videos being premiered around this time. There are escalated levels of interest in music, particularly music videos, during the summer months because kids/college students have more time on their hands since the school session is out. It is embarrassing I had not deduced this before. Happy summer, people!]

It seems like everyone decided to release music videos this week because here I am, back with yet another video premiere. This time it’s Kanye West featuring Mr. Hudson, but Hudson is nowhere to be found! Instead we get this lady:
Talk about an upgrade. Here’s the fantastically pop art video for the 80s laced “Paranoid“:
Paranoid - Kanye West feat. Mr. Hudson
I love the bed at the beginning and end. Great effect. Rihanna looks beautiful as ever. Here’s to her bouncing back from the personal scandals.

Breakin‘ Dishes – Rihanna
Though it might be Good Girl Gone Bad overkill, I think this should be her next single. It’s got perfect subject matter. It’s a shame this wasn’t a single after all, it could have topped the charts, too.

The time has finally come. The love for the Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ “Zero,“ the first single from It’s Blitz, has begun to fade; finally giving room to the far superior “Heads Will Roll“. (Readers of this blog might remember this as the bombastic track opening my April Mix, Let Love Rule.) And now, the best music video of the year, heads off:
Heads Will Roll – Yeah Yeah Yeahs
I must say this exceeded my high expectations. I don’t know what I love more: Karen O’s ultra modern red queen dress, the beast, the red confetti, or that final shot. Brilliant. [Anyone else getting a Michael Jackson vibe from the beast?]
And with an electro wave hit, come the remixes. Here are the ones I like the most (so far):
Heads Will Roll (DAN OH Remix) – Yeah Yeah Yeahs
This remix makes the song longer and adds some 808s/synth lines to it; pretty non-intrusive, but exciting nonetheless. The better of the two. I think I just like it cause it’s pretty close to the original, which I love.
Heads Will Roll (Emre B Remix) – Yeah Yeah Yeahs
This one takes more liberties with the song and makes it a lot more dance floor friendly. It handles the chopping of the vocals without being too annoying. It’s better than most I’ve heard so far. I’m sure we’ll get more of these that are superior. I’m giving it time.
What do you think of the “Heads Will Roll” video? How about those remixes? Please leave me a comment about it!
Can’t explain how much love I have for good lighting, engaging subjects and a blank wall. Gorgeous video, but overall a hell of a lot of fun.
For some reason I had a big, melancholy video envisioned for this track, but this works so much better than I ever thought it would. Metric rocks.
Sick Muse – Metric

Sorry for the two weeks absence. Lots and lots of work. Boo.
Poor thing: your ears must be aching without the awesome music I provide.
How should I make it up to you?
Hm.
Well, some people give flowers, but how about some fucking awesome remixes instead?
Deal?

Dat New New [Viking Mix] – Kid Cudi
This, in the words of Cudi is some “hot shit”. Viking has taken the track from good to great. Yet another Cudi song I like better post-remix. I sense a pattern.
The Day the Whole Word Went Away (Cold and Gray Salvation Remix) - Nine Inch Nails
Remember that song you heard in the incredible trailer for Terminator: Salvation? Yeah. This is it. Kinda. Turns out that the remix played in the trailer doesn’t technically exist. But some fans have tried their hand at creating something that sounds like the mythical remix. Here’s the best one I’ve heard.
Kill the Lights (Kevin Figueiredo Mix) – Britney Spears
Britney’s song is shown in new light in the rock remix drummer Kevin Figueiredo crafts. What was once a “Piece of Me (Part 2)” turns into the lonely cry of a girl with no true identity. Especially in the bridge. Brilliant.
Ares(Villains Mix) – Bloc Party
Villains kill yet another track, this time by “indie” favorites, Bloc Party. Another club slammer from the fantastic remix team. I just realized I misspelled ‘Villains” in the banner. If that bothers you, I suggest you deal.
Take On Me (The Twelves Mix) – A-ha
The awesome 80s hit with the wicked falsetto gets updated to the 200s by The Twelves. Brilliant move. It sounds like a brand new track now. They should start marketing it to teens who have no idea about a-ha.

Get On Your Boots (Justice Remix) – U2
Electro wave gods Justice do it again with an inspired take on U2’s newest – and severely underrated – single, “Get On Your Boots”. What starts off to be a typical Justice jam turns into a sexy, jazzy rendition of the song. It makes you wonder why they didn’t just collaborate with U2 for their new album. Now THAT’d be a makeover.

Zero (RAC Mix) – Yeah Yeah Yeahs
RAC manages to make yet another remix that tops the original. Though the “Use Somebody” remix they released recently didn’t quite get there, their take on “Zero” makes it an even cooler electro wave track than it already was. (Just like their version of GaGa’s “Just Dance”.)
Apology accepted? Tell me what you think of the remixes by leaving me a comment, please.

The fantastic duo that created “Paranoid” off of Kanye West’s brilliant 808’s and Heartbreak is back at it; and now it’s time for Mr. Hudson’s album cut featuring West. The song is called “Supernova“; it’s a midtempo track with an electronic/80s backing that is entirely delectable. Hudson’s vocals remind me of vocals from the hundreds of British new wave groups with a trance twist (it’s probably the autotune that made me think trance). Those assertions might not make much sense until you hear the track, but you’ll hear it. Hear it:
Supernova – Mr Hudson feat. Kanye West
The track is great until Kanye West comes in – then it’s amazing.(His use of the word ‘chance’ with a British accent in his first chorus is perfect – so very Kanye.) I especially love the layered vocal melodies at the end of the track. It’s pop music at its finest. ”Supernova” is right. You downloaded it, right? Don’t pass up the chance.
